Online Bingo

Gambling and movies may not seem like the perfect combination. However, you will be surprised how many films have been made about a number of casino-based card games in the past few years. Perhaps one of the more successful in this field is the movie 21 in 2008. The film, which became a surprising financial success, tackled the true story of players from the MIT Blackjack Team who used the card counting technique to beat the casinos. Another Hollywood movie about a casino card game, although less successful, is the Eric Bana-Drew Barrymore film Lucky You, which involved poker tournaments in the center of its storyline. American and European filmgoers may not know about the Asian films God of Gamblers and All for the Winner (starring Chow Yun-Fat and Stephen Chow), but these movies also tackled gambling games and were extremely popular all throughout the region.

What males card games and other gambling games so appealing to these filmmakers? These films depicted card games as successful and exciting. Of course, it’s easy to see how these films may have exaggerated or downplayed some of the crucial elements of these games (21, for instance, did not elaborate on the card counting techniques used by the Blackjack team), but they still managed to describe the feeling players experience during a game.

It may seem as if bingo will not get the same treatment. Bingo, although exciting, seems rather hard to put on film due to its passive game play. However, the film Bingo Confidential has dispelled that notion.

Bingo Confidential is the brainchild of Susan Benfatto, who initially had no idea how popular bingo is. However, after attending a bingo game with a friend, she realized the potential of bingo as a film. The film tackles a bingo game with a one million pot prize, the dying wish of a millionaire who wants to be remembered in bingo history. Also, it will focus on six people who will stop at nothing to win the jackpot. To add even more trouble to the brew are the relatives of the deceased who want to stop the game and claim the money for their own.

As early as 2008, a year before the movie had a definite release, Bingo Confidential had already stirred up enough attention among avid bingo players. This isn’t surprising, since this is perhaps the first movie to tackle this exciting and classic card game. It will also prove to the public that bingo is not a children’s game only played at festival and carnivals or an old person’s game played at charity event. Bingo can also be a mature game and can attract the most exciting and curious set of players all over the world, as the movie can attest.

Bingo Confidential is set to be released straight to video on October 2009. Still, while it is not getting a big screen release, Bingo Confidential remains to be a glaring proof that bingo is a mature game, a game everyone can enjoy.

Bingo is often considered by many as an old-fashioned card game by many. After all, why play bingo when you can play other more popular games such as poker, gin rummy, baccarat, and others? Bingo is a game many people think that only the old people play. However, it may surprise people to know that millions and millions of people around the world still play online bingo. In fact, according to statistics, more than 60 million people all over the world still play this quite beloved card game. And majority of that number actually resides in the United Kingdom. This is proof that in the United Kingdom, bingo remains to be one of the top card games, only second to the massively popular lottery.

Another proof that bingo is popular in the United Kingdom? Bingo on television. In the United Kingdom, there is a cable channel devoted to bingo, wherein players simply have to buy their cards from the Internet and other means. With card at hand, they can play right at the comfort of their own homes. Noticeably, this is quite similar to online bingo, except for one important factor: the television is more far reaching than the Internet, at least if you take into consideration the usual age of bingo players. Although many people play online bingo, to a point where the younger players are actually enticed to play bingo online, there are still a number of players who cannot play bingo online due to a number of reasons. Therefore, they still play bingo in traditional bingo halls. But with bingo television, they can forego playing inside a bingo hall for the convenience of playing bingo while sitting on their couch.

One reason why bingo could be popular in the United Kingdom is the fact that bingo is actually being played in casinos and other similar clubs. Instead of the usual bingo halls, the bingo clubs in the United Kingdom are actually more like exclusive clubs rather than the typical dingy setup. In United Kingdom, playing bingo is much more appealing than in any other place in the world. In fact, many bingo halls and online bingo websites parade the fact that even celebrities play bingo. The likes of Chris Evans, Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls, Jennifer Lopez, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, among others, have been seen playing bingo, whether online or offline.

Even more surprisingly, bingo is still growing in the United Kingdom, especially among the younger population. In terms of online bingo popularity, only the United States of America and Japan have UK beat. In the UK, online bingo is currently the top pastime among young women aged 20 to 25. Although it is said that online bingo players in the United Kingdom have even reached an overwhelming number, people expect it to hit such numbers in the long run.

Thanks to the benefits of technology, especially of the Internet, bingo and online bingo have suddenly become a phenomenon in the United Kingdom, as it is around the world. And it isn’t surprising.

Online bingo games are now increasing in numbers that it is already replacing traditional bingo halls in popularity. Aside from handsome prize offers, these sites also have features that offer security on the players’ part.

However, how does one choose the perfect website with all those hundreds of sites in the Internet? Too many options may confuse the newbie.

Here are some of the things to remember when choosing an online bingo site:

User-friendliness

Not all online bingo enthusiasts are techies. One must check the user-friendliness of a website. A newbie can use search engines and can browse around these websites first. One can look around and see how the game works in the site. There are also bingo forums out there that are discussing the pros and cons of each website. You can get ideas as to which websites are great based on the discussions.

Nevertheless, learn to distinguish real information from posters who are just promoting some ads about a certain bingo site. One can also ask around to family members and friends who are already playing online bingo themselves.

Software Used

Try to check the maker of the software the website is using. If it comes from well-known and reputable companies, you can be assured that the bingo website is stable since they have the funds to invest on good bingo software. This also shows that the people behind the site are serious about it and are responsible enough to give their members the best bingo gaming experience possible.

Most online bingo players look for sites using software that can automatically mark the cards for them, so they can buy and play many cards at the same time.

Feedback

Good feedback on the website’s customer support is another aspect that you need to look at when choosing a bingo site. If a site is known for its good customer support, you would feel assured that whenever there’s a glitch, they will do their best to help you out.

Security

With all the scams and identity thefts increasing in number, security is essential when choosing a bingo site.

Go for the one that uses SSL technology. This means that information sent across the Internet such as your credit card details are encrypted. This way, hackers would not be able to steal them.

Track Record

A bingo enthusiast can also check the number of years the bingo site has been operating. The fact that it has been around for so long means that it is reputable. You can also verify the number of players in the website. The more people playing, the greater the possibility that these people are satisfied with the site’s services.

Chat Rooms

Looking for chat rooms is also important. Just like in traditional bingo venues, the socialization part of the game should still be present.

It is also better to start with websites that have low minimum deposits and cheap prices for the cards. Don’t be tempted to go for those sites that offer huge prizes; sometimes this is a sign of desperation that they are badly in need of more players. It would be much better to look around first for a couple of days or hop from one site to another. There are even websites that offer trials for a newbie and are free of charge. One can take advantage of these sites.

Many online bingo sites in the UK are allowing online bingo players to bet on who will be the next US president.   Obama seems to have a good lead, but to be honest it’s anybody’s guess who will be voted in.  Obama has remained uncommitted regarding his stand on online gambling (online bingo, casino, poker or sportsbetting, whilst McCain appears to be sympathetic to the issues.

If not, you soon will.  Everyone knows how to play Monopoly and lots of people know how to play Bingo, join them together and you have a brand new game, Bingopoly, devised by Webroute Services.  It sounds as if it’s going to be lots of fun.  Beware of ending up in Paupers Prison (remember the jail in the corner) as you will lose points.  You will also lose points if you bribe the chatmaster!

Churches and other groups running small bingo games are paying a state tax that take funds away from charities and communities.  This tax is about to be examined with hearings to review the situation due to take place in Washington within the next two weeks.  The small bingo operators will also get their chance to state their case at a public hearing being held by the Joint Performance Review Committee’ on 24th September.

Uk Land Based clubs in Danger

10 September 2008

The UK has build up flotilla of more than 100 bingo halls and 32 casinos since 1930’s, but are now in danger. Already, since the begining of 2007, 59 bingo clubs have been forced to close due to the unfair taxation system and new goverment policies.

Environmentally friendly bingo

10 September 2008

Mecca Bingo is giving away two environmentally friendly energy saving light bulbs to its players in an effort to raise funds for the Whizz Kids charity.  Certainly an excellent cause and a good reason to go and play bingo.

From time to time this question hover in my mind, is not about playing bingo but being able to have a good time, socialize, meet your friends and enjoy your time.

Now a days that people are under pressure having to work a lot of hours and sometimes have to do two jobs do they really want to get dressed and go out? At this point technology comes to make things easier.

I did ask my friends if they would prefer to stay at home and play online bingo and i was surprised when they said yes, they recon that is much more fun, they can still talk to the friends plus they have more chances to win with less money. I never thought that I will play bingo online since I used to believe that Bingo is a community game.

I believe that less and less people will choose to continue visiting land based bingo halls. Especially now with the smoking ban around the world I can see people enjoying their freedom at home!

In the U.K. Bingo is played mainly in large halls with cash prizes, the larger commercial concerns are linked up with other halls during one particular game in the evening and large cash sums can be won on these.

It is also played in nearly every seaside town in the U.K. on screens in front of the player who pulls a slide across to cover the number called, but, presumably because of our gambling laws, there are no cash prizes, just various items like cuddly toys.

The other times Bingo is played, again for prizes, not cash, is in a myriad of local halls or schools around the country, usually as a fund raiser for various concerns like an old people’s Day Centre. Here the prizes are donated by shopkeepers and businesses in the town and surrounding area and the atmosphere at these Bingo games is usually very relaxed and a fun evening out where everyone is welcome, even children.

The prizes vary for these games but on average a prize for any one line is worth about £1.00 – £2.50 (depending on who is organising the bingo evening), any 2 lines would be worth about £2 – £5 and a full house (all the numbers on a card) worth £5 – £10. They could be boxes of chocolates, bottles of wine, a grocery hamper, a voucher from a local butcher for meat or a cream tea for two at a local tea-shop or even 2 free passes to a swimming pool. Anything really

U.K. (and Australian) bingo cards have three lines and nine columns (see picture above) and usually come in “Books”; single or multiple. A single book would contain ten 10 pages (10 cards) each of a different colour: Gold, Lime, Violet, Yellow, Pink, Grey, Orange, Blue, Red and White.

A multiple book has 6 single books. Each page in a multiple book has 6 cards of the same colour. The 6 cards on a page are joined with perforated edges and can be pulled apart. Experienced players will play all 6 books and inexperienced players or young children may only play 1 book, or even a single card.

As well as books, there are also single sheets of bingo cards sold with the 6 sections on (six cards) and these are called “Flyers”. Again you can buy just one section or 6 to suit your pocket or your experience. The flyers cost more per game than on the books but the prizes are usually worth a bit more.

In the large towns and cities Bingo is fairly “big business” and people play in deadly earnest, hoping to win that elusive jackpot. In small towns and villages it’s much more of a social occasion with amateur callers and a lot lighter atmosphere.
Australia uses the same bingo cards as in the U.K. In Sydney and Melbourne the callers are incredibly fast. In Perth they call a lot slower.
